The Dutch House by Anne Patchett

The Dutch House by Anne Patchett has been on my list for ages! It was popping up on every list imaginable but I just never got around to it. After seeing that Tom Hanks was the author of the audiobook, I finally gave it a listen.

The Dutch House is a beautiful story of life, loss, and family spanning multiple generations. The story follows two siblings, Danny and Maeve Conroy, as they navigate life after the passing of their father and the loss of the Dutch House. Despite the years that pass by, Danny and Maeve hold an inexplicable connection to the Dutch House and find themselves parked in front of it as they sort through memories of their past.

In all honesty, I was surprised by how much I loved this book. Patchett does an incredible job exploring questions of family, reconciliation, and how much the past shapes our present. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you thinking way past its end, I would give The Dutch House a read!

Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

Your Truly by Abby Jimenez was a delightful read! I love a good contemporary Rom-Com that features a shy guy character who is brought out of his shell by a badass independent leading lady.

When Dr. Brianna Ortiz didn’t think things could get any worse, hot-shot doctor, Jacob Maddox, walks through the hospital doors. With a promotion at stake and her personal life falling through the cracks, a superstar doctor with the looks to match is the last thing she needs.

When Brianna sees that he’s her competition, she digs in her heels and is prepared for battle. Though they start off on the wrong foot, with an unexpected letter, Brianna realizes that hotshot Jacob Maddox may not be so bad after all. Actually, he may be exactly what she needs.

If you’re looking for an easy read with many squeal-worthy and heartwarming moments, give Yours Truly a try!

The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks by Shauna Robinson

I went into The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks completely blind. I didn’t know what to expect other than what the title alluded to. And even then, I could not have imagined how wonderful it would be to fall into the world of Bell River.

Maggie Banks just has not figured it out. At 28, she’ll find any excuse to move out of her parents’ house, even if it’s to run a bookshop for her best friend who’s on maternity leave. How hard could it be to run a bookstore that only sells book titles from the last century, after all?

Yet, when a series of mishaps leaves the bookstore straggling for sales, Maggie finds herself getting more and more involved. There is no way she could disappoint her best friend or even let her know what’s been going on at the shop.

The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks is a story of finding one’s authentic self, building community, and having faith in others. I loved that Robinson’s story was centered around believing in oneself and asking for help along the way.
